Statement by the NGO ‘KyivPride’ Regarding the March
This morning at 09:00, the KyivPride NGO team held a meeting with the Head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, the Chief of the Main Department of the National Police in Kyiv, as well as other representatives of the National Police, the Security Service of Ukraine, and local government authorities. The meeting concerned the upcoming KyivPride March for human rights, scheduled to take place on June 14.
We express our gratitude to the government representatives for this meeting and for taking the time to discuss our event.
During the meeting, we were advised to cancel the March on the scheduled date due to security concerns. Several risks were outlined, including the threat of missile attacks, potential assaults on the March itself, possible attacks on participants by members of a counter-demonstration, and the issue of freedom of speech for “alternative opinions,” among others.
We would like to assure everyone that when planning and organizing any event, we thoroughly develop security plans and are fully aware of all potential risks. For the March, we proposed a 30-minute route between two nearby shelters, scheduled for a time when the likelihood of shelling is minimal — according to official reports from the Kyiv City Military Administration — at 12:00.
In contrast, the event announced by so-called opponents promotes violence, and we have not received any information from government authorities regarding measures to prevent this publicly announced violation of the law.
We understand that for security reasons, the authorities may not disclose all specific wartime risks to us. If such risks are deemed realistic, we acknowledge that the Kyiv City Military Administration may prohibit events from taking place in Kyiv during certain periods. In that case, the KyivPride March will be rescheduled to another date — for example, June 15 or another weekend day.
Unfortunately, negotiations with government representatives have so far exhibited elements of victim blaming and gaslighting. Victim blaming occurs when the victim(s) of a crime, accident, or any form of violence are held partially or wholly responsible for the violation or harm they experienced. Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation aimed at making a person doubt their own perception or sanity. Specifically, we are faced with accusations that by holding events for the LGBTQ+ community, we supposedly “provoke” members of far-right groups to commit acts of violence.
According to paragraph 2, part 1, article 2 of the Law of Ukraine “On the National Police,” the duties of the police include providing police services, particularly in the areas of protecting human rights and freedoms, as well as the interests of society and the state.
We call upon the National Police of Kyiv, in accordance with Article 214 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, to promptly— and no later than 24 hours after becoming aware from any source of circumstances indicating a possible criminal offense— enter the relevant information into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations and initiate an investigation.
We urge the National Police of Kyiv and the Kyiv City Military Administration to ensure law and order during the peaceful KyivPride March on June 14, in accordance with the current legislation of Ukraine and the principles of the Scandinavian model—successful examples of which have been repeatedly demonstrated by the Kyiv police, especially since the full-scale invasion.
In light of the above, we declare that we consider the KyivPride March necessary and feasible, provided that the event’s duration is shortened and the route carefully planned. We emphasize that we do not consider canceling the KyivPride March. We aim to cooperate with government representatives to create the safest possible conditions that will allow the event to take place on the basis of a reasonable compromise.

KYIVPRIDE

A Ukrainian non-governmental organization striving to achieve full respect for human rights for the LGBTQ+ community in Ukraine and organizing the most prominent annual LGBTQ+ event in the country – KyivPride.
The mission of the organization is to strengthen the pride movement in Ukraine by increasing the visibility of the LGBTQI+ community and advocating for the full protection of its rights. Since 2016, KyivPride has become and remains the largest and most prominent LGBTQI+ event in Ukraine, the only national platform that unites both national and regional initiatives for the visibility of the LGBTQI+ community and collective actions to address the issues faced by the community.
– The organization aims to unite members of the LGBTQ+ community, regardless of age, marital status, origin, religious, political, or other beliefs.
– The organization builds its activities on the principles of voluntariness, ideological horizontality, consensus, free choice of the area of its activities, absence of material interest among its participants, transparency, publicity, legality, equality of rights and responsibilities of its participants, as well as on the basis of voluntariness, pluralism, openness, and self-governance.
KyivPride 2025 Manifesto
In 2025, we are once again taking to the streets of Kyiv. We cannot remain silent, because human rights are not something that can be postponed until “after the victory.”It is the fight for freedom and equality that proves our strength, resilience, unity — and our commitment to a democratic, European path of development.
We see that democracy is under attack around the world. Examples from the United States, Hungary, and Georgia show that the assault on LGBTQ+ rights is often the first step toward a broader rollback of rights and freedoms for all people. Today, people face discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity — and tomorrow, it could be anyone.
Hatred toward one’s own citizens, their rights, and diversity as a whole is not a traditional value — it is a primitive one, characteristic of Russian and other totalitarian societies.
Meanwhile, as our soldiers fight for freedom on the battlefield, we must lay the foundation for Ukraine’s democratic development — a country where every person has equal rights and opportunities.
So we take to the streets to emphasize:
– Equality must be protected by law. We demand the adoption of legislation that ensures legal protection for LGBTQ+ people — including anti-discrimination measures and legal recognition of civil partnerships.
– Human rights are an integral part of Ukraine’s European integration. We genuinely share the values declared by the European Union and demand the fulfillment of commitments made to the Ukrainian people and international partners.
– Support equality and KyivPride 2025! A statement on social media, a campaign for Pride Month, a donation, changing your profile picture to a rainbow one, or participating in the March — every action matters!

KyivPride March
We brought Pride back to Kyiv!
For the first time since the beginning of the full-scale war, the Kyiv Pride March was held, in which more than 500 people took part.
The march was held under the slogan “Together for Equality and Victory.” During the event, we called for increased military support for Ukraine from international partners and emphasized the need to pass bills No. 5488 and No. 9103.
We marched side by side with members of the community, LGBTQ+ military personnel, and opinion leaders.
Pride fundraiser
We have launched a fundraiser of 4,000,000 UAH for the defenders of Ukraine to support the charitable foundations “Shields Ukraine,” “OrcBusters,” “Volunteers,” “Birds,” and the organization “Military LGBT+.”
We have already raised over 3,000,000 UAH and continue to collect funds to meet the needs of the military. Make a donation to the main fundraising account or start your own support fundraiser.
Info campaign “Blurry”
Focus on what truly matters.
The “Blurred” information campaign emphasizes that we might get distracted and shift the needs of the military into the “blind spot” of our awareness.
Especially during the New Year holidays, we may forget to thank those who make it possible for us to celebrate. A series of three videos featuring LGBTQ+ military personnel and Ukrainian media figures explores situations of “forgetting” and encourages us to “refocus.”
Educational charity events
We believe in the importance of safe spaces and opportunities for growth.
That’s why we often hold educational events during our activities, which not only provide informative resources for the community but also give a platform to friendly speakers.
Yes, during the KyivPride 2024 festival, we hosted a charity lecture series featuring psychologist Ulyana Boncio, activist Anna Sharigina, blogger Sasha Dragli, “Gay News” host Kostya Andriiv, “LGBT+ Military,” head of the Women’s Veteran Movement Kateryna Pryimak, and others.
Additionally, despite the disruption of the event, we successfully held Kyiv Queer Talk – a charity lecture series that explored topics of culture, charity, and queerness.
Free education for the community
LGBTIQ+ individuals often face discrimination in the workplace.
That’s why we developed training and professional development programs for the community to provide opportunities for career growth and connect them with inclusive educational platforms.
Over 136 students were granted free access to digital profession courses offered by the Projector Institute. Students could choose from a range of professions and master their chosen field within a few months of training.
Additionally, we launched a barber training program at the Frisor school. Over two months, trainees learned both the theory and practice of the profession and received a diploma to help them start their careers in this field.
