KyivPride2017 Organizing Committee expresses deep concern regarding the turmoil that took place on May 17 - International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT) - during the events in Kharkiv. We are outraged over the attack committed by a group of unidentified individuals against participants of performance against homophobia, biphobia and transphobis in Kharkiv. The public assembly, meant to draw attention of Kharkiv citizens that LGBTI community are deprived of their basic rights, namely right to marry, has ended with violence, while two police officers and an activist were injured.

Today, on 17 May, the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia, we are proud to reaffirm our commitment to the protection of human rights and promotion of equality for all, including the right of citizens to peaceful assembly and the right to freedom from discrimination. We also recognise that the values of tolerance and respect for diversity are fundamental to open democratic societies. After some violent incidents in the past, the international community remains concerned about the safety of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) Ukrainians, their friends, families, and all advocates for tolerance and equality in Ukraine.
At night on May 11, some unidentified people damaged the building of LUSH store (Baseina str, 15), which participates in the LGBT-friendly Kyiv City Map and has a sticker We are friendly. The damage is the sign on the wall in big black letters ‘Ukraine is against perversions! Get out of here!’

Ukrainian LGBT-activist ZoryanKis started a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for the March of Equality, which will take place on June 12.
On June 6, OZON Civic Monitoring Group monitored the Equality March. During the event, violations on the side of the police and criminal acts on the part of aggressive youths who attacked the participants of peaceful assembly are noticed. Press conference "March of Equality through the prism of human rights. Whose rights have been violated?" is on the abovementioned observations.
